Skin Cancer Treatment in Warrawong

Photodynamic Therapy is a non-invasive cancer treatment option, which can be done in our clinic. It uses a combination of light-sensitive medication with a specialised light source to provide direct and targeted treatment.

How does Photodynamic Therapy Work

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) works by applying a light-sensitive cream onto the targeted area. A specialised light source is then shone on the cream to activate it. PDT allows extremely targeted non-invasive treatment. It kills the cancer cells, while also stimulating an immune response which further kills the remaining cancer cells.

What to Expect With Photodynamic Therapy?

The treatment can last approximately 45 minutes. After the treatment, the affected area will have to remain covered and dry for at least a day. It may become red, swollen or scabby, which can take up to 6 weeks to heal. However, it is a fairly painless treatment option, with a burning or stinging sensation occurring only while the treatment is happening, and will pass soon after the treatment is complete. Some patients may need to have more than one session to treat the lesions.

If you are seeking non-invasive skin cancer treatment, Photodynamic Therapy may be able to help. Book a consultation today to determine what treatment options are most suitable.
